APPROVED // REMINGTON i-LIGHT PRO

The hair removal story continues. After the overwhelming amount of emails and reactions on the blog and social media I received on my permanent hair removal blogpost, I decided to focus on smooth bare skin for a few weeks. And so I already shared with you my thoughts on several different hair removing (home) tools and treatments, including the Nd YAG 1064 nm at the Antwerp based Carpe Clinic and the new Calor Soft Extreme EP7530 epilator.

I had my first permanent hair removal session on my legs a few weeks ago and since I already noticed some surprising reduction suddenly every inch of shaving started bothering me. So I threw out all my razors and started trying out the Calor Soft Extreme EP7530 epilator for my thighs and an IPL home hair removal device for my underarms; the Remington i-Light Pro that is. One that shocks the follicle and suppresses regrowth with a quartz flash lamp.

As IPL - Intense Pulsed Light - cannot be treated on recently tanned skin (in the last 4 to 6 weeks) cause it may cause burns or skin injury and I wasn't eager on covering up my legs and arms in the middle of Summer I started using the Remington i-Light Pro on my ghostly white underarms. Now, ghostly white I say because of no sun exposure but the many shaving sessions have left behind stubble and so it looks like I have dark spots all over my underarms. And yes, here's yet another major advantage of IPL; it is said to reduce 'chicken skin' under your arms and lighten your hairs which results in an even skin tone.

I couldn't wait to get rid of the unwanted underarm hair and took off by using the skin tone sensor and then placing the Remington i-Light Pro against my clean shaved armpits using the Single Flash Mode. When pressing the flash button to activate I got surprised by a sting, almost like a rubber band snapping against your skin. Not exactly painful, yet a slightly uncomfortable pinching feeling. I lowered the energy level at first but it took only a few flashes and then I got rather quickly used to the heat sensations so I opted for a higher level again. I do believe the amount of discomfort depends on your personal pain threshold but chances are high you will tolerate the so called 'stings' after a few treatments.

A ten weeks trail period has gone by; I've been using the Remington i-Light Pro for five times every two weeks now and I noticed my hair changing into fine hairs and ultra fine hairs until now. The growing hasn't completely stopped yet but I am definitely more than enthusiast on the thinning of my hairs. The first two sessions my skin was left red and glowing afterward, for a few hours it felt like I had a bad sunburn. But that also got less painful and visible every time I used the i-Light Pro.

Would I recommend this home hair removal system? For approximately 250 euros I consider this one worth the investment. Sure it takes some time, discomfort and effort but in less than three months I was 70% hair free. You can use it in the comfort of your own home and it's still a lot cheaper than any other IPL treatment at a salon.

Have you been using any permanent hair removal devices yet?
