DESIGNED. MY SILHOUETTE

26.10.14

When seeing the words "design your own' on an invite I am not exactly hesitant to confirm. A few months ago a very tempting one by Silhouette landed in my mailbox. By the end of September I was on a plane heading to Austria to visit their offices and factory and grab my very unique chance to design my own eyewear.

Silhouette is celebrating its 50th anniversary and we were about to discover all about their heritage and the evolution in their eyewear. Together with Debbie Zwiers from Beautyscene.nl we received the warmest welcome in the Silhouette headquarters in Linz. Not only did we get to meet the design team and ophthalmologists, we also enjoyed a guided tour in their production area and had the most inspiring chat with executive director and son of the founders, Arnold Schmied. We talked about the importance of a good frame; how the right pair of glasses is flattering your entire face and how it is always one of the first accessories grabbing people's attention.

"What I am most likely to remember is the watch on your wrist and the glasses on your nose"

Just like the right clothing can accentuate your features, a wisely chosen pair of glasses can brighten up your entire face. As part of the 'My Silhouette' program we learned which colors and shapes suit our face and so we started designing our own personalized and tailor-made rimless glasses. As the different choices seemed endless we were luckily assisted by the super friendly and helpful in-house Silhouette design team that easily talked us through all the options. I ended up with a silver toned Titan Minimal Art temple and bridge with a slightly squared lens shape, not too girly and soft yet still very feminine and elegant.

"At a time when practically anything is technologically possible, lightness and trim structures are no longer a promise, but reality"

Silhouette launched its unique Titan Minimal Art range back in 1999. I myself joined their fan club about two years ago, when I took my first pair of Silhouette glasses home. The Austrian eyewear brand can call itself worldwide leader in lite eyewear and when trying on your first pair you will instantly understand why. 'Light as air' is no exaggeration in any way when a frame is so comfortable you even forget you're wearing it.

A thousand thank you's to all the super sweet people at Silhouette for having us; I enjoyed every second of it! And a big kiss to Beautscene Debbie for being the loveliest company during my Austrian getaway.
