Beauty, Estée Lauder, foundation, tips, professional, help, fond de tent, tricks

A few months ago I already shared my story on suddenly dealing with problem skin here. After quite some effective treatments at Carpe Clinic the acne flare-ups are finally starting to disappear. But in the meanwhile I've managed to become a master in covering up and concealing daily break-outs. And I wouldn't be your decent blogger if I didn't share them with you. Although I'm still no makeup artist, I do put a spotlight on my six essential steps to look like a billion dollars.

Find your seasonal shade

Ask for some samples and take them home to do the test. Try different colors on your jawline and make sure to do that in daylight. The right color to perfect your complexion is just a tiny bit lighter than your own skin tone. Never ever ever go for darker! It will look fake and adds years to your age! Also, don't forget to switch to a lighter shade in winter. For spring and summer I prefer less coverage and replace my foundation by BB-cream.

Invest in quality.

Find the one foundation that will always serve you well. Don't settle for the cheapest foundation in the store; your skin deserves far more! My go-to weapon of choice is the Estée Lauder Double Wear foundation. And ever since they've launched a Double Wear To Go version, I am carrying this handy packaging with me all day. Eight hour natural coverage and all-day illuminated skin guaranteed.

Create the perfect canvas.

Never underestimate the importance of clean and moisturized skin! Wash your face first and then apply your serum, moisturizer and eye cream; without these you will never achieve that healthy glowing skin we're all looking for. And if possible - if you have some time left in the morning -  I'd recommend adding a primer too, to reduce your pores and matify your face and assure your foundation stays in place. It makes such a difference!

 Choose your tools.

I don't like using my fingers to apply skincare or makeup. Even though I wash them before it still feels a bit like rubbing dirt in my pores… For years I preferred the Real Techniques foundation brush. That is until I discovered the Beautyblender, a miracle worker edgeless sponge applicator that allows you to apply your foundation impeccable and streak-free. And if you want you can damp it to soften the coverage.

Build coverage.

Never ever add too much at once. Put a dot of foundation on the back of your hand and slightly build the coverage on your face by tapping or stippling the foundation with your brush or sponge. Remember you can always do touch-ups on imperfections when needed. For a flawless result I tap some concealer (one shade lighter than my foundation) under my eyes, on the sides of my nose and on little blemishes.

Final finish.

Make it a habit to finish with translucent powder to take down the shine and reflect the light and use a lightweight water mist to fix your makeup and sooth your skin.

Be sure to check out my video with Estée Lauder here to discover just how brilliant my foundation of choice actually is.
